The Device: 2014 Sci-Fi Shortfilm
This is a schoolproject my friends and I worked on for the past couple of months. In case you (as my beloved subscribers) are interested, I filmed everything and volunteered to edit everything on my own. Which was fine by the rest of the crew so thanks! We directed the movie together. The assignment was: Make a shortfilm and mention the school in the shortfilm. We were free to make up our own story and decide how long the film was going to be. 2 things we took pretty seriously! The story is absolutely ridiculous, we sat together for 2 days to decide what it was going to be. Eventually we kind of had a story, which was ten rewrited twice in order for it to be anything decent. Then we spent an entire day working on the screenplay. This was rewritten twice as wel! Then shooting began, we spent 2 and a half days filming everything. Drove at least 100-200 kilometers to get to all the places we needed for the movie. Shooting everything was loads of fun! We got to go to different places, had a good laugh, I think we just all had a good time in general! If you are interested in seeing the making of of this movie, let me know I'll upload that as well! Anyway, up and til this point everything went smooth and kind of as we expected. As we were shooting we were thinking that we had enough footage to cover maybe 10 minutes of actual movie material. But when I started editing everything it became clear that this was not going to be the case. We thought 15 minutes was kind of what we should be going for, but I soon passed the 10 minute mark and noticed we weren't even halfway the story, and the biggest part stil had to be covered. But we didn't really care, we thought, if it's going to be long then it needs to be epic as hell! So that's what we tried to do! As we asked people with how it was going with their shortfilm they were astounded that we were reaching the 15 minute mark as they only had about 3-4 minutes. A few weeks later I told my crew that we were going to breach the 30 minute mark. At this point we really started to worry that we had gone beyond some of the boundaries and agreed to keeping it around 30 minutes. So that's what I went for while editing the movie. If you'd put every single day of editing and editing alone right behind each other I don't think I'd be ready with the movie in 1 week. It took me quite a while to figure everything out but I think it looks pretty good and I'm happy with the result so it was worth the time! If you have any questions considering the story (cause yes, it's confusing we know but we didn't have the time to shoot more scenes) then feel free to ask! If you have any questions in general then feel free to ask!
