I almost had something similar to this happen to me with a tiger at a zoo in Delaware, except I didn't have to jump the barrier, as I was already SO close to it, that I could've easily reached out and touched it if I REALLY wanted to. She charged me when I had my back turned towards her to take a picture in front of her exhibit

You don't realize how big a polar bear is until you see one close to a human. Nearly 1,000 pounds, that's not even the biggest polar bear, it's average in fact, the biggest is more than twice that size.
