This video shows the basic composition of an infantry division, how many men and officers. Furthermore, what type of weapons were used in general and in what numbers. Finally, a short overview on how the division was organized in sub units and the composition of an infantry company in terms of men and equipment. The sources on the composition of Polish Infantry Division in 1939 differ on certain values, also there were different setups. Furthermore, especially on the equipment there was a wide variation inside the Polish Army, after the Polish State at that point was quite young. Especially in terms of artillery and field guns the designations and types vary according to the different sources, hence some of the shown guns may not be accurate, nevertheless the numbers and caliber should be correct.See notes on Accuracy & “Methodology” (bottom) for more detailed information.---** Social Media **---facebook: https://www.facebook.com/milhistoryvisualized/twitter: https://twitter.com/MilHiVisualizedhttp://militaryhistoryvisualized.tumblr.com/---** Credits & Special Thanks **---The Counter-Design is heavily inspired by Black ICE Mod for the game Hearts of Iron 3 by Paradox Interactivehttps://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?forums/blackice.467/---** Sources **-----* Books *--Ellis, John: World War II - A Statistical Survey - The Essential Facts & Figures for All the Combatants, Edition: 1995 reprinted with correctionsAmazon.com (affiliate link): http://amzn.to/25g38cDAmazon.de (affiliate link): http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/0816029717/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1638&creative=19454&creativeASIN=0816029717&linkCode=as2&tag=ytmh-21There is a newer version from 2002, which has a different name, but from the same author, you might consider that one:Ellis, John: The World War II Data BookAmazon.com (affiliate link): http://amzn.to/1WD0qbhAmazon.de (affiliate link): http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/1854102540/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1638&creative=19454&creativeASIN=1854102540&linkCode=as2&tag=ytmh-21Disclaimer - *Amazon Associates Program*“Bernhard Kast is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.com.”Hinweis - Amazon Partner (amazon.de)“Bernhard Kast ist Teilnehmer des Partnerprogramms von Amazon Europe S.à r.l. und Partner des Werbeprogramms, das zur Bereitstellung eines Mediums für Websites konzipiert wurde, mittels dessen durch die Platzierung von Werbeanzeigen und Links zu Amazon.de Werbekostenerstattung verdient werden kann.”--* Websites & Links *--http://niehorster.org/029_poland/organizations/div-inf.htmlhttp://www.cgsc.edu/CARL/nafziger/939PXPG.PDFhttp://derela.republika.pl/artillery.htmhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_armaments_1939%E2%80%9345http://polish-made.com/pl/p/Skoda-100mm-wz.1419-haubica-135/2496http://www.stardestroyer.net/Armour/ShepStuff/Website/DrakaWB/Polish%20Small%20Arms%20OOB.htm---** Notes on Accuracy & “Methodology” **---1) Loads of different sources used, the total number of men seems one of the few things all agree upon. Everything else there were usually some light differences in number or wording. 2) The 81mm Mortar is not a graphic of the Mortar M 31 license built French mortar M 27/31 Brandt, but an US 81mm Mortar from World War 2. (No proper reference and the difference is negligible.)3) Number of men and officers are rounded to 100 steps, 16492 = 165004) Number of equipment with more than 100 pieces are rounded to 10 steps, e.g., 132 to 130.5) The Models of all weapons are based on various references, but often I discovered that those vary quite a bit. Especially for the Polish BAR there are loads of different versions out there, hence mine is probably wrong in some ways.6) For Artillery and field guns the designations and types vary according to the different sources, hence some of the shown guns may not be accurate, nevertheless the numbers and caliber should be correct.7) The Codename “Uruguay” has a background story, check it out here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wz._35_anti-tank_rifle#Secrecy_and_confusion

27 AT guns - fat too little, germans at that time had 75 per division. Our Army should have concentrate them and use it at higher level than division. AT guns were spread too thin. Most Polish Infantry divisions have not encountered German tanks for a whole campaign.

That lack of artillery really hurt

4 AA guns. Four! For an entire division. This exemplifies how little regard was given to the air threat before the war.

Why Poland failed in 1939? I could go deep into history or tactics etc. However, the basics should be considered first: Poles did not have enough artillery would be reason number 1!

Could you please do the same about Polish cavalry brigade as well as about the 10th Cavalry Brigade which was the 1st fully motorized cavalry brigade in the Polish Army?

they could even had 100 divisions and 2000 aircraft. If atacked simultaniesly from both sides, that won't help anyway...

Amazing. I did not think Poland had actually so well organized division. I am sure not as good as German but they had the signals, engineers and antitank and even AA. Some artillery. Not that very bad. There is a tendency to depict Poland as very outdated and weak army but it seems it was not totally so. Could you please make a video about mortar usage and organization? I cannot imagine mortars used by company or battalion but so may pictures or TV even shows solders using mortars from 1939 to 2019...

How effective were anti tank rifles as opposed to taking out a tank with other means? Have you covered this question before?

Just pure curiosity makes me wonder how such an invasion would looks today. I mean military power gap between german and polish army isn't even half as big as it was big back then, but Poles are still poles. Restless patriots.

This is a good equipment for an infantry division. I don't understand the fast failure of the polish army 🤔 I think they wasn't ready for the mobile warfare of germany.
