Now that's how you rock the intro to any movie in the 80s.

If you're of a certain age, this is super nostalgic. It meant The Neverending Story was on!

Walk in Theatres always had a presentation prior to the feature. Generally there was some high quality music playing while everyone walked to their seats, and then the music stopped and the lights would dim. The curtains and sheers would part and the screen would light up as a few Trailers of coming attractions would play, and then the sheers would close, followed by the curtains. A moment later, the curtain and sheers would reopen and the feature would begin. The theatre was covered on all walls with curtains and it was dead quiet in there and fussy children and their mothers could watch the film in the provided "Cry Room" behind glass windows so as not to disturb others.

HBO came to town and was received by microwave receivers installed on the roof of your house and was only one channel, but came before cable tv was available to us and really was a quality service. Great films and specials were the standard back then.

In retrospect, this really is so well done for what it is, and an epic piece of nostalgia for me. It evokes some tension -- is something bad about to happen? But somehow it's like comforting at the same time. And the vestiges of disco in the second half of the arrangement, so good. I was 6 in 1983. We didn't subscribe to HBO, but a couple times/year I think they would run free trial periods where it would come through. At the time, I was obsessed with the original Superman movies, and when we'd get free HBO around that time I would always hope so badly that a Superman movie would be the movie that follows this intro (I associate the two also in part because the HBO into feels kinda Superman-ish, with the fly-over cinematography and the ascension into space at the end). And I 100% have a very distinct memory of the one time that that actually happened -- hearing John Williams' iconic score kick in right after the HBO intro faded, I remember that feeling, it was like I won the lottery that one evening so many years ago . Thanks for taking me back.

I think I literally heard this song more than any song before the age of 15 and I have to come here every 6 months or so to see it again.

They must’ve spent so. Much. Money. On this in 1983. What on earth was the cost per second? Live action, miniatures, 2D animation, maybe some ancient CGI? It’s incredible.

That weird moment when you realize the deep correlation between Rocky's theme song, Boxing, HBO and HBO's theme song.
