The saddest moment in "Jeopardy" history?

This was robbery, as far as I'm concerned.
If his spelling was so bad that the judges literally couldn't tell what he meant, sure, okay, that's a dead wrong answer. But he clearly knew the right answer, and simply misspelled it. You try writing down "emancipation proclamation" in under thirty seconds if you're twelve years old, on TV for the first time in your life. Jeopardy's excuse here is terrible.

Do a search. Jeopardy messed up on a clue about the 7th inning stretch song. Take Out to the Ball Game. Look it up. Lady was wrong. They said she was right.

Anyone that knew that answer......but can't spell it.......... had a headset on anyway. Screw that kid.

Misspelled it badly? By one letter isn’t misspelling badly. Trebek was a clown.

No he wouldn’t have won. Maybe that’s not even the point. Maybe the point was solely in winning that one answer/question and embarrassing him publicly for spelling a word, that was obviously the correct word, incorrectly.

The thing I wonder is I think in recent final Jeopardy clips I have seen people misspell their answers and it is counted correct. Sometimes you can't even read what they wrote.

Jeopardy varies on leniency vs nitpick nowadays.

He misspelled it BADLY?? If the word is spelled incorrectly, then there's no point in qualifying it. It's just MISSPELLED.

It's a quiz show! Surely you'd have to know how spell the answer PROPRTLY

Some of these shows try to find reasons to deny paying out the grand prize.

They want the ratings but not to give up money in honouring the prize, so make up rules to disqualify.

CNN made this a much bigger deal than it actually was. Thomas wouldn’t have won even if he got it right (unless Skyler pulled a Cliff Clavin)

They could have talked about Skyler’s impressive $66,600 win. Not many Jeopardy! players win that much in one game

But Skyler will be back for the Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament this year, so we’ll see if his trivial skills have improved over the past 12 years
