Destroyed in Seconds- Chemical Plant Explosion

Idk if this is the same plant explosion, but when I was in elementary school in Las Vegas in the late 80s/early 90s, there was a horrible explosion and staff came running into our lunch room. A couple minutes later, we were all brought outside, where we saw a massive plume of black smoke. It was a mushroom cloud like I’d never seen before. A family friend had just had a baby and her baby was blinded by glass that broke through the hospital window from the explosion. There weren’t videos back then, it was crazy.

As a chemical engineering student, I avoid anything with nitrogen, fuels and fertilizers. Those facilities are pretty much just grenades, and the pin is static charge or some random worker.

Destroyed in seconds looked way less cheesy when i was in high school...

I worked at a place about 5-6 miles away from there when this happened, and it shook the building when Pepcon exploded. I remember afterwards being concerned that smoke could be toxic.

I think this was intentional and insurance was collected.

The explosion in Beirut's port in 2020 is probably the largest explosion to date that is not related to nuclear weapons.
