In a facility that stores this kind of powerful explosive you should avoid any kind of ignition source, from a welder or a cigarette lighter and in this case washing the plant down carefully so a fire could not occur due to the excess AP dust that had settled on the property. Both of these would have helped beforehand to prevent this kind of a disaster happening.

He’s on about agaratine which can be distilled with methanol and then turned into hydrazine. Mix two parts with 1 part NH4NO3 and you have yourself a pretty powerful explosive. To put it into context, the PEPCON disaster ignited barrels of ammonium perchlorate which has a very similar explosive profile to hydrazine perchlorate. It caused an explosion on par with a tactical nuclear yield, registered a 3.5 richter earthquake 300 miles away, caused over $200 million in damages, and caused damages within a 16km radius and the shock wave buffeted a Boeing 737 on approach to land at McCarran International Airport 7 miles away.

you need to shiw the video in real time. the observers would not have heard the explosion until the shickwave reached them. in its oresent form with the altered timing to make sound match explosion, it has no impact and is basically a fake representation of the true impact if what happened. many people make this silly error and edit the sound like this. loses all its impact and becomes just a waste of time..

it never fails to amaze me how many reporters use the word decimated when talking about calamitous events because the word decimate means reduce by 1 in 10 not wipe out as they are trying to imply.

Ahhh back when discovery Channel actually had great shows.
